A Climbing Instructor For All Levels
Great Range Mountain Guides is owned and operated by Mark Scott with operations based in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. Mark is trained and certified as an American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Rock Instructor, Ice Instructor and Apprentice Alpine Guide. Mark is also a Provider of the AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course and Assessment and is licensed by New York State as a Tier 1 Rock and Ice Climbing guide.
The name, Great Range, is an acknowledgement of Mark's roots to the Adirondacks where the "Great Range" forms the core of the most rugged High Peaks; while also being aspirational, as Mark strives to teach and empower his guests with the skills and confidence to range more greatly in their endeavors.

FULL DAY CLIMBING
For a full day of rock or ice climbing in the Adirondacks. Days typically start at 8:30 am and go until approximately 4 pm.
HALF DAY CLIMBING
A half day of climbing starts at 8:30 am for morning sessions or 1 pm for afternoon sessions.
AMGA SPI COURSE
The American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single Pitch Instructor course is 27 hours long, held over three consecutive days. These will be based out of Keene Valley. This course is appropriate for individuals with an active interest in instructing climbing in the single pitch setting.
AMGA SPI ASSESSMENT
The American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single Pitch Instructor Assessment is 16 hours in length and is conducted over two days. Candidates will be assessed for proficiency in technical systems, decision making, group management, etc.
EXTENDED/MOUNTAIN DAY
Extended days often involve 8-12 hours of climbing and hiking. Typical objectives include: Wallface, Avalanche Pass, and Gothic Mountain.
